Hate in our society is growing and is increasingly directed at those in all our communities and those I love. Probably those you know and love too. This is not what good people are about or what this country is about. If we don’t stand together against it, we will fall together.
I intend to fight the hate right here and right now by speaking out against this inhuman and anti-American bile aimed at marginalized groups such as the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, and anyone who is different, against the rounding up of people without due process, and about our slide into autocracy—basically everything against what this country stands for. You can read about how I define obvious and why I started this little exercise.
The New “Talk”
Suffice it to say, we all know members of the LGBTQ+ community. They are our family, our neighbors, our fellow congregants, our co-workers, our teachers and principals, and all around us. If you don't believe that's the case, if you believe that the LGBTQ+ community...
On Gunning Up
Why is the U.S. gunning up so much? We have more guns than people (although a small minority own a huge amount). I believe we are gunning up out of fear, and it's helped along by our politicians and our media who reinforce that people are coming for our rights, our...
The New Bogeypeople
I recently saw a post on LinkedIn where the writer was berating people who put pronouns after their names in their profiles or email signatures. I unfollowed her and blocked her right away. I don't have patience to suffer idiots who can't let people be who they want...
Our Politicians Benefit When We Hate Each Other
It's the oldest trick in the political book: find a wedge issue, convince people you're their advocate on that issue, and demonize the other side. As a politician, you can rise to the top of your party this way. This is why our nation and our politics are...
What I Mean by Obvious
I define Obvious on this domain as something that is obvious to me but that I think should be obvious to everybody. It's obvious to me that there is too much hate in this country and not enough truth. Something has broken in our country, our national dialogue, and...
Joining the Fight
Our society is getting angrier, and hatred of people and of groups is growing normalized, or perhaps it has already been normalized. And I have had enough of it. That's where I am now: sick and tired of the hate. But you can't sit around, get disgusted, and do nothing...
